The prime industrial location is adjacent to the Ballarat Airport, existing rail infrastructure, the Ballarat Western link Road and Western Highway.
Spiire’s Civil Engineering, Construction Consultancy, Town Planning, Survey and Water Engineering teams have been engaged by Development Victoria as part of the precinct’s multi-staged industrial subdivision.
Our integrated services are working together to deliver a range of works throughout the development, commencing with an extension of Liberator Drive. The road has been realigned to allow for the expansion of the Ballarat Airport runway, providing through road linkage between the airport and the BWEZ.
Local surveyors from our Ballarat office provided feature and level surveys and a title re-establishment survey to support the creation of a road reserve.
Our Civil Engineering team designed the 1.3km extension, including associated culverts and service relocations to facilitate the depth of the new stretch of road. Due to the road’s proximity to the airport, our engineers navigated the operational requirements including complying with Obstacle Limitation Surfaces that protect the surrounding airspace.
In some places, this involved cutting up to four metres into the relatively flat land, to allow for future traffic along the road within these height limits. The design also considered the requirements of the upcoming Stage 4 subdivision in the BWEZ precinct.
We also provided Construction Consultancy Services for the road extension, working with Winslow through the construction of our team’s designs, which was completed in February 2025.
As lead consultant, we worked closely with external subcontractors including Trafficworks, Geotechnical Testing Services and Vic Vac Hydro Solutions.
