Our landscape architects prioritised community amenity in the design of Adore estate’s linear reserve, which surrounds an existing creek corridor.
Spiire’s local Landscape Architecture team in Adelaide, formerly known as Outerspace Studios, was engaged at Adore, a boutique residential community in Mount Barker.
The team initially developed a landscape masterplan for Stage 1 of the estate, which included retaining significant existing trees along Sims Road that were integrated into the street tree network.
A reserve along the site’s western boundary is the community’s main open space, containing an existing creek corridor that serves as a stormwater management asset for the area. From the engineering design for the creek, featuring an in-line sedimentation pond and two wetland basins, our Landscape Architecture team developed a design for the reserve to combine recreational value with the stormwater management function, while enhancing the site’s natural character and promoting a connection to nature.
This included an extensive planting scheme to suit the varying conditions. Working closely with the Mount Barker District Council, a mix of native and endemic species was carefully selected to provide planting that could thrive at the differing water levels of the riparian environment, and within the varying soil conditions including sections with clay lining.
Throughout the construction, more than 100 native trees and almost 10,000 native plants were installed throughout the site, enriching its biodiversity. Our landscape architects provided contract administration services through the landscape construction phase, working closely with main contractor GreenInc.
Integrating recreational value into the reserve to create amenity for the community was a key consideration. Within the site’s tight footprint, walking and cycling paths connect several seating and viewing nodes, while providing linkages through the estate and onwards to neighbouring properties. Given the significant population growth of the Mount Barker region, this pedestrian network was designed to connect with the multiple existing and future developments along the estate’s perimeter.
With the first section of the reserve complete, our team is now working on the landscape masterplan for the next section of reserve along the same creek line.
