Local expertise

Our local Landscape Architecture team have operated as part of Spiire (previously Outerspace Studios) since September 2025 and is supported by our wider network of over 45 established landscape architects across the Spiire business. Our one team approach to project delivery further complements the depth of experience, specialist expertise and capacity of our local offering.

As local consultants we are connected to the communities we live and work within; shopping, dining, exercising and accessing professional services including childcare and healthcare locally.

We strongly believe in providing project outcomes appropriate for our local community context and take a site-specific approach to each project. We have a sound appreciation of regional issues and understand and support the diverse range of aspirations within our community.

Our strong relationships with local government and authorities uniquely positions us to provide expert local knowledge relevant to the design, development and functioning of local projects.

A truly integrated service offering

We understand the value of bringing together multiple disciplines under the same roof, working together as an integrated service offering.

This holistic approach has been central to Spiire’s business culture for many years, helping us to drive efficiencies for our clients and realise opportunities to improve project outcomes.

The combined expertise of engineering and landscape architecture provides a stronger, integrated design and delivery capability to our clients in the South Australian market.

With a shared understanding of our clients’ project visions, our teams work side by side to navigate site constraints. Our collaboration, combined with innovative human-centric thinking, allows us to create efficiencies and push boundaries – backed by a sound appreciation of constructability and cost.

We appreciate the value of early landscape architecture involvement on projects, to help realise a site’s true potential and facilitate opportunities that align with our clients’ goals and councils’ aspirations.

The collaboration of our in-house landscape architects, engineers and urban designers also allows us to deliver Water Sensitive Urban Design (WSUD) assets that effectively combine functionality with aesthetics and ecological sustainability.

We are demonstrating this ability to find effective solutions together at Lanser’s Clover Wood project in Mount Barker. In our current work delivering Stages 1 and 2, our team is working collaboratively to maximise the retention and protection of existing significant and regulated trees and sustainable outcomes in WSUD.

An award-winning team

The local team, led by Kathy Bawden, has been delivering projects of significance across Adelaide and beyond for over 20 years, and is recognised for its creative, people-focused design outcomes.

In 2025, the team were proud recipients of three Australian Institute of Landscape Architects (AILA) South Australia awards. These included Commendations for the Water for Life Award and the Healthy Parks, Healthy People Award for the Burchell Reserve Redevelopment, and the Landscape Architecture Award for Civic Landscapes for their work on the Marion Cultural Centre public realm project.

As designers, problem solvers, strategic thinkers and landscape technical experts, our design process is underpinned by curiosity and an aspiration for beauty and excellence.

Working with clients to cultivate the brief, we interrogate preconceived ideas of success by analysing relationships with complex urban and environmental systems. Our outcomes, built or strategic, are always grounded in place and culture.
