Location

Truganina, Victoria

Rooke Reserve is in Truganina, which is located 20 kilometres to the west of Melbourne in the City of Wyndham.

The 1.5 hectares of parkland provide a clearly defined pedestrian and bicycle network to the surrounding residential neighbourhoods and amenities.

In 2009, Spiire was appointed to survey the site, with a brief to develop a fun approach to landscape architecture that would engage the local community.

Play was central to our design intent for the regeneration of Rooke Reserve.

Our teams made sure that both the structures and the settings of the playgrounds were designed with different age groups in mind. Our solutions catered for two year-olds through to 12 year-olds, while also including areas where people of all ages could engage in recreational activities.

We also ensured that our client’s continuing commitment to environmental sustainability was met by introducing water sensitive urban design elements.

The surrounding western basalt plains provided a scenic outlook for Rooke Reserve. We added interest and relevance by encouraging a design that stimulated the senses. This was achieved by cleverly combining plant colours and textures, mixed topography and a diverse range of construction materials.

Successfully completed in 2010, the project was awarded the UDIA Award for Excellence, Residential Development of more than 250 Lots, in 2011.

Rooke Reserve has also been featured by Landezine Landscape Architecture Works.
